Set of natural-looking dentures on a tray at Dentistree in Camden

Dentures are a long-established way to replace missing teeth — and modern designs and materials mean they can look and feel more natural than ever. At Dentistree in Camden, we offer full dentures (when all teeth are missing on a jaw) and partial dentures (when some natural teeth remain). Treatment starts with a careful assessment of your gums, supporting bone and any remaining teeth, so we can plan a denture that fits well, looks natural and supports comfortable eating and speaking.

Dentures take time to settle in

Even a well-made denture takes some getting used to. New dentures often feel bulky at first, can affect speech for a short time, and may cause minor sore spots that we can ease with small adjustments. Most people adapt within a few weeks. Over time, your jawbone and gum shape gradually change — particularly after teeth have been removed — so dentures eventually need relining or replacing to maintain a comfortable fit. We'll talk you through realistic expectations and the alternatives, including implant-supported options where suitable.

  • Full upper and lower dentures
  • Partial dentures (acrylic and metal-framed)
  • Immediate dentures fitted at the time of extraction
  • Denture relines and repairs
  • Discussion of implant-supported options

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

A typical denture is made over several appointments — usually a few weeks — to take impressions, record your bite, try in the teeth and finalise the fit. Immediate dentures, fitted on the day of extraction, follow a different timeline.
Modern denture teeth come in a wide range of shapes, sizes and shades, and we'll work with you to choose a look that suits your face, age and personal preference. A natural appearance is a key goal of careful denture design.
Most people can return to a fairly normal diet with dentures, though it can take time to adjust and some foods (very hard, sticky or chewy items) may always be more difficult. We recommend starting with softer foods and chewing on both sides to help with stability.
Remove and rinse your dentures after meals, brush them daily with a soft brush and a non-abrasive denture cleaner (not regular toothpaste, which can scratch them), and soak them overnight in water or a denture-soaking solution. Bring them to your check-ups so we can review the fit.
Dentures don't last forever. Your gums and jawbone change shape over time, and the denture itself wears. Most dentures need to be relined, adjusted or replaced after a number of years to keep fitting well and protecting the supporting tissues.
Dental implants can offer a more stable, fixed alternative — and implants can also be used to support and stabilise a denture. Both have advantages, and the right option depends on your bone, gums, general health and personal preferences. We'll discuss the alternatives honestly with you.
