The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a Medicare-administered program that helps eligible children aged 0–17 access basic dental services. At Dentistree in Camden, we welcome CDBS patients and will check your child's eligibility and remaining benefit cap before treatment, so you know what's covered and what isn't. Most basic services for eligible children can be bulk-billed under the scheme.

What CDBS covers (and what it doesn't)

CDBS provides a benefit cap (set by the Australian Government) per eligible child over a two-calendar-year period for a defined list of basic dental services — typically including check-ups, X-rays, cleans, fissure sealants, fillings, root canals and extractions. CDBS does not cover orthodontic treatment, cosmetic services or treatment provided in a hospital setting. Eligibility is based on the child's age and the family receiving certain government payments — Medicare assesses this each calendar year, and we can check your child's eligibility and remaining balance with your consent. For full and current details, refer to the Services Australia CDBS page.

  • Eligibility check via Medicare with your consent

  • Calm, friendly approach for kids of all ages

  • Fissure sealants and fillings where indicated
  • Clear written treatment plans for parents

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Eligibility is determined by Medicare and depends on your child's age (0–17) and whether your family receives certain government payments. The easiest way to check is via your Medicare online account through myGov, or we can confirm eligibility and remaining balance with your consent at your appointment.
CDBS covers a defined list of basic services such as examinations, X-rays, cleans, fissure sealants, fillings, root canals and extractions, up to a benefit cap over a two-year period set by the Australian Government. It does not cover orthodontics, cosmetic treatment or services provided in a hospital.
Eligible CDBS services provided at Dentistree in Camden can typically be bulk-billed, meaning no out-of-pocket cost for those services up to the benefit cap. If treatment goes beyond the cap or includes services not covered by CDBS, any gap will be discussed and agreed with you in writing before treatment.
The benefit cap applies over a two-calendar-year period as set by the scheme. Any unused balance generally does not roll over once the period ends. We'll check your child's remaining balance at each visit.
Where scheduling allows, yes — many families prefer to bring siblings together. Let our team know when booking and we'll do our best to accommodate.
Many children feel a little anxious, especially at their first visit. We use a calm, friendly approach and take time to explain things in an age-appropriate way. We'll never rush a child who isn't ready.
